Swtor Patch Download Keeps Restarting

That keening sound you can hear, that you can’t quite place, that’s your modem having a bit of a cry. Because it knows you’re going to update an MMO, and that means it’s going to be force fed internet until you’re satisfied that it’s juicy modem-liver is going to be properly swollen and tender. Then you’ll update your MMO, and use all that juicy internet to play all the lovely new features. Today’s MMO is SWTOR, and today’s update is a big one.

1.3, which is out in the wild now for you to hunt down and apply to your base game, has been named ‘Allies’ by BioWare, because it does all sorts of things to make your game much more fun to play with people. Some are just useful, others are fun, but they’re all going to make galavanting around with lightsabers and jetpacks just a little more enjoyable.
The big addition is a Group Finder, which means you don’t have to spam chat nearly so much with LFG or LFConsular all the damn time. Instead you can just state which role you want to play, which Flashpoint or Operation you want to take on, and then just wait for the slots in your team to fill up. Easy as levitating an orange with your mind.
Legacy Perks have been expanded too, giving you more options to bolster the way you want to play, whether it be Warzones, personal story or space missions. The idea is to make those more rewarding so that you don’t get forced into a playstyle that you have no interest in. There’s also some perks that give you droids and speeder skills, but that’s not nearly so interesting.
The other major change is in letting you accessorise and coordinate your wardrobe without sarcificing battlefield nous. Your magic pants might protect you from blasters and grenades, but they’re a horrible lurid yellow, and they make you feel like less of a man, right? Well now you can merge those stats into some stylish leather trousers, and dance your way to victory. The examples BioWare gave were less interesting than that; Sand People or Republic Pilots.
And the stats themselves have become more impressive, with the ability to create kits that unlock the modification slot on items, which will mean you can bolster on a bit of extra oomph in your favourite lightsaber. Every lightsaber needs a bit of extra oomph. It’s what makes them crackle and pop.
1.3 is out now, and you should be able to cow your modem into submission just by starting up the launcher and letting those fat pipes start feeding that content right down the line.

I tried running the SWTOR_setup.exe and reset to defaults, didn't work. I was about ready to give up and just uninstall and reinstall the entire game but I got lucky. This is what finally got the launcher to show back up. Navigate to Program Files (x86) Electronic Arts BioWare Star Wars - The Old Republic and delete the Patch folder; Restart. For more help on Star Wars. You may have to make the changes again after the patch if it over-writes the changes made to your CFG. (Keep it disabled). Texture Quality SWTOR currently doesn.

If you’re having trouble launching or patching STAR WARS™: The Old Republic™, check here for a solution.
Which launcher are you using? Repair launcher Error messages Hardware troubleshooting Software conflicts Network troubleshooting

If you’re getting an error code in the launcher, use CTRL + F to search for the code on this page.

Need the launcher? Download the launcher here.

Before you start troubleshooting, check which version of the launcher you’re using. Here’s how:

If you installed Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ on your computer after July 30, 2013, you’re probably using the streaming client (also known as BitRaider).

Double-check this on the launcher by looking for the letters ST at the bottom left:

If you ever had technical trouble with the launcher, it’s possible that our support team asked you to change to a different (direct download) version of the launcher. If you’re running that version, you will not see the letters ST on the launcher window.

Do this if the streaming launcher starts, then fails while updating your game:

Download and run the Launcher Repair Utility to find and replace any files that may be causing problems:

  1. Close the SW:TOR launcher.
  2. Download the launcher repair file here.
  3. When you’re asked, choose to Save the file.
  4. Copy or move the downloaded file to your SW:TOR game folder:
    • 32-bit Windows - C:Program FilesElectronic ArtsBioWareStar Wars - The Old Republic
    • 64-bit Windows - C:Program Files (x86)Electronic ArtsBioWareStar Wars - The Old Republic
  5. Once you’ve copied the file, double-click on it to run it.
  6. Choose Install, and let it run.
  7. When it’s finished running, it opens the launcher. Try logging in and patching again.

If you’ve tried that and it didn’t work, delete the BitRaider folder and try again:

  1. Open your SW:TOR game folder.
    • 32-bit Windows - C:Program FilesElectronic ArtsBioWareStar Wars - The Old Republic
    • 64-bit Windows - C:Program Files (x86)Electronic ArtsBioWareStar Wars - The Old Republic
  2. Click on the bitraider folder and press Delete.
  3. Start the launcher again and log in.
  4. Wait for the launcher to repair itself and update your game.

Run SW:TOR and the launcher as an administrator

You need to run the launcher as an administrator so it can update the game files on your hard drive.

Only a single instance of this application can run.

Use task manager (Press CTRL-SHIFT-ESC or press the Windows key and x then choose Task Manager) to find swtor.exe or launcher.exe. If you see them in the list, select each one, then click End Task. Now, try the launcher again.

Network Error. Check your internet connection.

This could mean that there’s a problem with your internet connection, or that software on your computer (like a firewall, a VPN, or an antivirus program) is stopping the launcher from connecting to our servers. Check the Software conflicts and Troubleshoot your network sections of this guide for help clearing this one up.

When you run it, it generates files our support team can use to figure out what is causing problems for the launcher. It packages these diagnostic files into a zip file and saves them in your game folder.

When you contact our support team, they’ll let you know where to send the zip file so they can review it.

Direct download client errors

Error downloading patch data. Retrying…

This means the launcher can’t pull data down from our servers. It will keep retrying until it connects, or until you close the launcher.

This could be due to a server outage, a problem with your internet connection, or a firewall, VPN or anti-virus program interfering with the connection. Check the Troubleshoot your network and Software conflicts sections below for some potential fixes.

An error occurred updating. Repair.

Click the settings cog on the Launcher.

Click the Repair button on the Settings screen, then click Save.

The Repair button is clickable if you are logged into the launcher and it has detected an error.

If the repair doesn’t work, there may be a problem with your hard drive or your system’s memory. Skip down to the next section and try the troubleshooting steps there.

Reliable source serving corrupt data

This is an error message that only shows up in your launcher logs, and it means that the data that you downloaded became corrupted. In most of these cases, this happens because of a problem with your system’s RAM or hard drive. Check below for some hardware tests that could help you figure out what’s going on.

Chkdsk

This test checks your hard drive for errors.

Firewall and antivirus

Sometimes when the launcher updates, your antivirus or firewall can mistakenly flag it or the main game program file as a danger (because the file doesn’t look the same as it did before).

Some programs can even move them into quarantine or on to a deletion list.

If this happens you need to add launcher.exe and swtor.exe to the exception list for both programs. If you already had them on the list, remove them and add them again.

You’ll find instructions on how to do this for your antivirus and firewall on their manufacturers’ websites.

If you’re using the Windows Firewall, choose your operating system from the list below to find instructions on the Microsoft website:
