I have downloaded patch 1.0c but when I try to play AOE I keep getting a message to insert game disk - It is already in. I have the AOE collector's edition. I want to play one of the Andre Rosa's custom campaigns for which I believe I need to use this patch. I am not the most computer literate person so would really appreciate some help along the 'Patching for Dummies' lines. Thanks Sue

Hm, I play without the patch, but the other guys should be able to help you.

No patch here, too. The campaigns can be played without it, and is far easier to save a game without it.

@ RCM and Supp: Playing some of Andrea Rosa's works without the patch can be harder then playing with them. He makes use of some features that are in the patch which makes some scenarios easier.
@ Sue: Hmm. That is a hard one. Have you tried restarting the computer at all? BTW welcome to AoEH.

And some scenarios by Imhotep and Ingo van Thiel are impossible without 1.c.
SueL: is your CD scratched? I have played a lot with the 1.c patch, but never had that problem.

Thanks for all the messages - nice to go to a forum where people respond so quickly. I will try without the patch and see how it goes. I have had to reinstall and it seems to be working fine. I just wanted to be able to access all the features it seems are available when playing with the patch.
I suspect that the problem lies with my lack of knowledge rather than the game or the disk. I'm guessing that there is something I should do when I download and then install the patch that I am unaware of - oh well!
Probably an indication that I should be focusing on work instead of having a ball playing AOE!
Thanks again for the messages.
Sue

It is a strange case as you should just be able to run game fine after installing the patch. From memory (I haven't run the patch in a while ) you should just be able to run the patching software and having everything done with no problems. Sorry we couldn't be of more help but if you need anything else or just want to chat about some AoE you know where we are.

Thanks for trying anyway. I played the first senario of the
Angkor War And The Khmer Legacy without the patch and it seemed to work fine. Am looking forward to the next challenge now!
cheers Sue.

For the record: you don't need to re-install to have AoE/RoR with and without the patch (the install simply copies the files from the CD to your harddisk); simply do the following:
* Rename the patched files in the AoE folder to AoEpatch.exe and RoRpatch.exe (or use other names)
* Copy the original exes from your CD(s) to the game folder.
* Make shortcuts to all versions and place them on your desktop or in a games folder on your desktop. In the shortcut you can also add code to prevent the opening cinematics.

well... the 1.0c patch only affects the empires.exe ... if u having problems to install the 1.0c patch, you can just replace/overwrite the empires.exe you have installed (unpatched) by one empires.exe patched and it will work as 1.0c.
not sure if i can post the link here tho... does it go against the coc? (the link to a patched empires.exe 1.0c)

Lol, the patch is, if I'm correct, offered for download here as well. Nothing wrong with it, except for the new bugs it introduces.

Yes we have the patch here in the granary. Anything else probably would be against the CoC.
